Our Programs

Showers & Laundry

The Sitka Homeless Coalition provides free shower and laundry services twice weekly on Monday and Thursday 8:00am to 11:00am at the Sitka Laundry Center (906 Halibut Point Road).

Clothing and Equipment Donations

The Sitka Homeless Coalition provides donations of clothing and shoes, sleeping bags, tents, reusable hand warmers, winter gear, blankets, cell phones, and other resources. Please inquire if in need. Please message us if you have gear to donate.

Emergency Shelter Program

The Emergency Shelter is OPEN! Every night from 8:30pm to 8:30am until March 31st, the shelter will be open for all neighbors in need. The shelter is located at the United Methodist Church of Sitka, 303 Kimsham Street.

Last winter (Jan-Mar 2024), in partnership with the United Methodist Church of Sitka, SHC was able to open a winter shelter for the first time. The shelter opened for 78 nights with an average of 7 persons per night. In total, the shelter was utilized 550 times by 19 unique individuals.

Dinner Program

The Lakeside Dinner Program is back! Meet an SHC volunteer every Tuesday from 4-5pm at the Lakeside Deli. SHC will pay for $12.50 towards a meal and/or groceries for those experiencing housing insecurity.

This winter, SHC is also providing Community Meals every Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm at the United Methodist Church (303 Kimsham).

SHC is dedicated to providing Sitkans access to food services, especially because food insecurity and housing insecurity are so deeply connected. Last winter, in partnership with AC Lakeside, the Sitka Homeless Coalition provided meals to anyone experiencing housing insecurity from 4-5pm every Monday-Friday at the AC Lakeside Deli Department from November 2023 to March 2024.  We served over 2500 meals to over 200 Sitkans!

Case Management and Connection to Resources

The Sitka Homeless Coalition is partnered with a number of local service providers. We connect individuals in need with organizations that provide nutritional support, medical services, bus passes, emergency rental support, housing opportunities, and more. Please reach out to us through our website if you are in need of connecting to resources or visit us at office hours at the library on Tuesdays from 1-4pm to speak to staff directly!
